Richard James & Associates

Mr. Richard James, P. Eng., PTOE, has been involved in Transportation Planning and Engineering for over 39 years in British Columbia, Alberta and England.

He has carried out a wide range of projects including site traffic impact and parking analyses, traffic demand management studies, local area transportation management plans, road network plans, transportation modelling projects, signal timing reviews, functional designs and the planning for, and management of, major transportation projects.

He has revised the former Site Impact Analysis Manual (1997) (now the Planning and Designing Access for Developments manual - 2009)and developed and taught several workshops on the topic for BCIT/BC MoT. Mr. James has been a beta tester and instructor for McTrans/Univ. of Florida for their Highway Capacity Manual/Highway Capacity Software courses in the Western USA and Canada, as well as a beta tester for the Synchro software.

Ms. Danelle Laidlaw, BA, has been involved with alternative transportation development for over 20 years as an alternative transportation consultant working independently and with planning and engineering consulting teams. Ms. Laidlaw has also worked as a staff person for the provincial cycling association, and as a cycling volunteer at the local, provincial, and national levels.

In her consulting role, she has worked on major transportation plans applying her experience to ensure that cyclist and pedestrian needs are anticipated, recognized and incorporated.

Ms. Laidlaw has participated in a number of committees developing guidelines for bicycle and pedestrian facility design including: Canadian Institute of Planners, Transportation Association of Canada, Canadian Institute of Transportation Engineers, Victoria Transportation Policy Institute, and the Insurance Corporation of BC.
